Chinese New Year Celebrations in the West Island Chinese Community Center

“Kick off to the Year of the Dragon”

On January 14th, the West Island Chinese Community Center (WICC) successfully hosted yet another Chinese New Year Party at the D.D.O City Hall. Chinese families came from all over Montreal to celebrate and welcome the new year, more than 400 people were in attendence. Chinese Consulate General Ms. Zhao Jiangping delivered a letter of congratulation prior to the event. D.D.O. Mayor Ed Janiszewski and his wife, Pointe-Claire Mayor McMurchie and his wife, Quebec immigration officials Janis-Marika couples and special assistants of Congressman Mr.Scarpaleggia; Ms.Carola and Maire were all present that evening.

The Party highlighted distinctive themes of the Chinese New Year. The night focused on encorporating chinese food tasting, traditional chinese performances as well as a ballroom dance soirée that concluded the evening. The main performancers included : Members of the Senior Club of the MICC, teachers and students of the Montreal Confucius school, actors from the Montreal Center of Chinese Culture & Arts and from the Montreal Yue Zhi Sheng Arts Group. Furthermore, the WICC  invited the Troyanda Ukrainian dance ensemble to perform for the Chinese community.
